Florence

— One of the world's most beautiful cities in winter: the colours of terracotta and almond dusted with snow.”

Firenze

Florence is without a doubt one of the world’s most beautiful cities.

It has been home to great artists and their patrons for centuries. Bocaccio, Da Vinci, Botticelli, Dante, Giotto, Machiavelli, Michelangelo, Brunelleschi, Galileo, Cavalli and numerous popes: all of them have lived here.

It was unseasonably cold, coming right after the torrid heat of Egypt. A smoking ban had just come into force and all the bars that had bothered to open after Christmas were empty though great places to get warm!

We had with us a bulky Olympus SLR camera when compact digitals of any quality were still both uncommon and uncommonly expensive. The results seem to have been suffused with a rather nice yellowy-brown tinge.

Hello you, I'm Mike Padgett. I'm not a Princeton curator, Knoxville mayoral candidate, Kentuckian pastor or Arizona journalist, I just share the same name. In fact, I am a consultant working in user experience and information design.

I also enjoy travel, concerts, films and walking.

I'm originally from Yorkshire, England but nowadays I live in Belgium. My current favourite Belgian beer is Black Albert.

Shameless self-promotion

Dopeology.org

Over a year in the making, Dopeology.org is my latest personal project: a topology of doping in thirty years of European pro road cycling.

I collected information from thousands of sources, then I modelled and published it via a lightweight user interface.
