Casino Royale
— Overhyped but not overboard: a solid, reliable performance from the new, edgy and unpredictable Bond.”

- Director: Martin Campbell
- US/UK, 2006

Possibly only Borat has had a greater share of the movie hype this year. In the UK at least, much of the buzz surrounding Bond 21 was concerned with scepticism over its leading man, Daniel Craig.
But Casino Royale looks and plays differently to the Brosnan era and it’s this reinvention-within-a-remake that works well: Craig can build his own 007 and the producers can have a break from coming up with daft film titles.
Craig looks carved out of stone and he gets cut up and tortured in consistently interesting ways. He’s not hot butter, but he is a twenty first century guy. Vive la différence.

A golden jackpot to help raise the budget for a proper film. Like Las Vegas, this film is loud, garish and steals your money.

Shameless self-promotion
Over a year in the making, Dopeology.org is my latest personal project: a topology of doping in thirty years of European pro road cycling.
I collected information from thousands of sources, then I modelled and published it via a lightweight user interface.
