Wostyntje

— 3/5. Cloudy, earthy beer with deep coriander flavour and a touch of mustard, though not as strong tasting as expected.”

Wostyntje

3 stars out of 5

By Brouwerij ‘t Smisje 33cl, 7% ABV, serve at 9°

Mustard plants are grown in the fields around the Flemish town of Torhout. So it’s fitting that there’s a good dose of mustard in this unusual beer, ‘t Smisje Wostyntje.

A fairly cloudy, earthy brew, heavy on the coriander with even a strange hint of bubblegum. The aforementioned mustard doesn’t actually come too high in the taste, making it pretty inoffensive on the whole.

Update 06 January 2011: on my most recent trip to the drankenhandel, I was told that ‘t Smisje had discontinued the Wostyntje.
