St Feuillien Brune

4 stars out of 5

33cl, 7.5% ABV, serve at 7°

The eponymous saint was an Irish monk who preached on the Continent until he was beheaded by locals in the charcoal forests around Le Roeulx, where the Friart family have been brewing in the headless hero’s name since 1873.

The St Feuillien marque remained one of Belgium’s best-kept secrets until it scooped two prizes at 2009’s World Beer Awards.

This tasty brown ale has a rich, red brown colour. Full-bodied with fruity, woody flavours and a slightly dry finish.

5/5. Lustrous dark brown brew with a dense, lasting head. Smells like bitter chocolate and soot. Tastes rooty, smoky and sweet.

Hello you, I'm Mike Padgett. I'm not a Princeton curator, Knoxville mayoral candidate, Kentuckian pastor or Arizona journalist, I just share the same name. In fact, I am a consultant working in user experience and information design.

I'm originally from Yorkshire, England but nowadays I live in Belgium. My current favourite Belgian beer is Black Albert.
