In viam pacis, goes the Benedictine motto: “on the path to peace”. Certainly, this luscious triple should smooth the way.
This beer retains the name of the famous Walloon abbey of Maredsous, but it’s actually been brewed by Duvel-Moortgat under the brothers’ quiet auspices since 1963. Peace indeed.
Having just arrived in Belgium, this beer was originally one of our first loves, but as in life one tends to grow out of them. Nevertheless, there’s still plenty of caramel, cloves, baking and fruit flavours in there.

Nieuwhuys Hoegaards Bier Alpaïde
5/5. Lustrous dark brown brew with a dense, lasting head. Smells like bitter chocolate and soot. Tastes rooty, smoky and sweet.

Noir de Dottignies
3/5. Hops, figs, licorice and a nice sourness. Not as powerful as other notables but a solid brew all the same.
