By Brouwerij Huyghe. 33cl, 9.3% ABV, serve at 9°
I first tasted this one with my brother down at Café Delirium in Brussels, where all the Huyghe beers are stocked. Comes in the characteristic milky, mottley white bottle like its more famous sibling Delirium Tremens. The Guillotine is “a beer to cut off your … thirst!”, says the brewery. Who are we to argue with that?
Golden and lively with plenty of fizz. Something rather harsh and perhaps even a bit metallic as it meets the tongue, but packs a mature and very mellow finish. Sharp, surprising and definitely one of my favourite blondes.

4/5. Crisp and bubbly, with a trace of metallic taste giving way to a slightly fruity, slightly peppery body.

2/5. Chocolate and caramel flavours with a suspicion of cola. Rather too sweet for my taste.

Who you gonna call?
Hello you, I'm Mike Padgett. I'm not a Princeton curator, Knoxville mayoral candidate, Kentuckian pastor or Arizona journalist, I just share the same name. In fact, I am a consultant working in user experience and information design.
I also enjoy travel, concerts, films and walking.
I'm originally from Yorkshire, England but nowadays I live in Belgium. My current favourite Belgian beer is Black Albert.
Shameless self-promotion
Over a year in the making, Dopeology.org is my latest personal project: a topology of doping in thirty years of European pro road cycling.
I collected information from thousands of sources, then I modelled and published it via a lightweight user interface.
