Blanche de Namur

— 3/5. Hazy, golden white beer. Taste doesn't quite live up to the extraordinary bouquet but still a friendly proposition.”

Blanche de Namur

3 stars out of 5

By Brasserie du Bocq. 75cl, 4.5% ABV, serve at 4°

Nobody really knows how the beautiful Blanche in 1335 went from the banks of the lazy old Meuse to the icy currents of the Norrström. What indeed would her father Jean gain by marrying her off to the King of Sweden and Norway?

Somewhat less of a mystery but every bit as delicate is this hazy, golden beer from Bocq. A delicious creamy head with staying power announces a strongly floral scent, with hints of fruit and soap.

Taste does not quite deliver all that, but very soft in the mouth with barley sugars, lemon and a slight sourness. Aftertaste dry but not especially strong.

I’d choose Blanche over Hoegaarden’s best any day!

5/5. Golden and lively with plenty of fizz. A little harsh as it meets the tongue, but packs a mature and very mellow finish. Definitely one of my favourite blondes.
