Abbaye des Rocs Brune

4 stars out of 5

33cl, 9% ABV, serve at 7°

When it first started in 1979, the brasserie Abbaye des Rocs could turn out about 1,200 litres of beer a year. Today it brews around a hundred times that.

This pure malt ale (no added sugar) is rated 10th best beer in Belgium. Its proud makers say that it’s “deep, mystic and extremely mature”.

Looking almost like a red wine, the aroma is intense and complex. Taste is dry with only very slight bitterness and packed with caramel, chocolate and more than a hint of smoked wood.
