Alias Watch: Damn, He’s/I’m in trouble again

— There are other Mike Padgetts in the world. Today I learned that one of them has had some bad news.”

Ever Googled yourself? I do it regularly. It’s not that I’m vain, I just like to stay informed.

Here are a couple of examples. Just over two years ago, a gentleman called William Mike Padgett failed in his bid to become US Senator for Tennessee. Then at the beginning of this year, a fatal motoring accident occurred on the rather grand sounding Mike Padgett Highway in Augusta, GA.

So today I’ve just learned that another of my namesakes has had some bad news.

This time it’s an unfortunate fellow by the name of J Michael Padgett. This namesake is currently the Curator of Ancient Art at the Princeton Art Museum, though if recent allegations turn out to be true, he might not be for much longer.

The June 2nd edition of the New York Times reports that Italian authorities are investigating Padgett for his part in the alleged “‘illegal export and laundering’ of Italian archaeological objects.”

A similar case initiated over five years ago and involving a curator of the J Paul Getty Museum is still ongoing.

Hello you, I'm Mike Padgett. I'm not a Princeton curator, Knoxville mayoral candidate, Kentuckian pastor or Arizona journalist, I just share the same name. In fact, I am a consultant working in user experience and information design.

I also enjoy travel, concerts, films and walking.

I'm originally from Yorkshire, England but nowadays I live in Belgium. My current favourite Belgian beer is Black Albert.

Shameless self-promotion

Over a year in the making, Dopeology.org is my latest personal project: a topology of doping in thirty years of European pro road cycling.

I collected information from thousands of sources, then I modelled and published it via a lightweight user interface.
