Easter weekend started early as my brother Jim visited Belgium and we headed up Thursday morning to the Flemish coast at De Panne.
This being still a workday in Belgium, crowds at the Three Days of De Panne Koksijde are generally manageable. We dropped the wheels at the Park and Ride at Adinkerke and took the Kusttram into the centre of town in time for the finish of the morning road stage.
After an audacious little attack from the perennial Niko Eeckhout was reeled in, the ensuing bunch sprint was taken by Tyler Farrar, making it his first win of the season.
The warmth of the lovely sunshine throughout the day was somewhat tempered by icy coastal winds and riders were duly blasted on the long seaside straights of the afternoon’s time trial course.

Easter weekend starts early at the Belgian seaside with a visit to this classic stage race.
David Millar had worked very hard indeed in the horrible conditions of the last couple of days and made good on his prospects to take the stage and the overall win. A great day out topped off with a British victory!
Now we could hardly wait for Sunday’s Ronde van Vlaanderen on the Muur van Geraardsbergen!
